Congo red dye removal from aqueous solution by encapsulated eggshell membrane using central composite design

Eggshell is solid wastes produced from the food industry. Commonly, eggshell and its membrane used to treat water pollution such as heavy metal removal also dye removal. Thus, on treatment process, it’s was having material handling problem, which needed filtration method remove out adsorbent solution, it not efficient when commercializing in wastewater plant. Therefore, this study using alcohol-sodium alginate (PVA/SA) encapsulate membrane, encapsulation would be able enhance performance of raw adsorption. In study, (ESM) are prepared bead form, optimization performed by congo red at several parameters pH, initial concentration, contact time, dosage ESM. The central composite design selected optimize adsorption process generating 30 runs experiment software Design Expert® version 11. Fourier Transforms Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) characterize ESM bead. There found that main functional group contribute were carbonyl group, hydroxyl 42.74 nm pore size. point for each parameter 12.63mg/L 6.12 g dosage, pH 2.19 12.83 min time optimum efficiency 98.86 %.
